We can’t help but gravitate towards Ferraris from the early 1960s here at The Coolector and that’s why you’ll never find us far from the auction catalogues of RM Sotheby’s (not that we can afford anything within them) and this led us squarely to this glorious looking 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series II by Pininfarina which is going under the hammer at their upcoming Open Roads auction at the end of February. This stunning machine is finished in factory-correct “Rosso 20200” paintwork over a non-original black leather interior and looks in fantastic condition.

The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series II by Pininfarina from RM Sotheby’s is powered by its matching-numbers 3.0-litre V-12 engine, coupled with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive and it is a desirable late-model example, being the 336th of 355 Series II models produced. Racing Backstory

Overflowing with old school cool, this supremely stylish Ferrari was previously owned by Wayne Sparling, ex-director, mechanic, and racing driver for Ferrari’s North American Racing Team and comes with a history report by marque expert Marcel Massini, plus copies of its former U.S. title, and a Ferrari Market Letter article – all of which add to the overall authenticity of the lot. As you’re likely aware, we’ve got a pretty big soft spot for Ferraris here at The Coolector and seldom do we encounter one that we’d love to call our own as much as this stunner from RM Sotheby’s.

The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series II by Pininfarina was completed by the factory on 19 December 1962 and it is one of the last 20 Series II models that were ever produced. Delivered new in an exterior colour of “Rosso 20200” over a Beige Connolly leather interior, this Ferrari was originally supplied to Luigi Chinetti Motors of New York, U.S.A. – who were Ferrari’s main New York dealer at the time – in January 1963 and was sold to its first owner that same year. As you can see, it has been pretty well looked after over the last half century and more.

While some elements of its history are not accounted for, this 250 GTE 2+2 does retain its matching-numbers engine and is presented in a sumptuously stylish configuration. The car is offered with a Massini report, copies of a former U.S. title, and the Fantasy Junction advertisement from July 2006.
