Needless to say, there were some pretty bold and daring additions to the motoring market in the 1980s and chief amongst them was the rather breathtaking DeTomaso Pantera GT5. If you want to add one of these glorious looking steeds to your line up of classic cars, you’re in luck because one is going under the hammer with Bring A Trailer as we speak and with the current bid at $50k, you might still be able to bag yourself a bargain.
The 1982 DeTomaso Pantera GT5 from Bring A Trailer has been imported from Belgium and has just 49k miles on the clock so it hasn’t done an abundance of miles and is, in fact, in the prime of its life. The car is finished in white with red and blue stripes that give it a visual vibrancy over a beige and black leather interior that exudes old school cool. The power comes from a 351ci Cleveland V8 mated to a 5-speed manual transaxle, and the car was serviced with an oil and filter change and new coolant in June 2019.
Great Details
The body of the 1982 DeTomaso Pantera GT5 features fibreglass wheel arch extensions, side skirts, and an air dam that were specific to the GT5 model, which was introduced in 1980. A letter from DeTomaso to Claude Dubois in 1984 states the car was produced in white with a three-band motif, which it has kept as you can see in the images. The front air dam was repaired some time ago and the vehicle is in remarkable condition considering its rapidly closing in on forty years of age.
Great looking and top performing, the 1982 DeTomaso Pantera GT5 was equipped with larger disc brakes and wider Campagnolo wheels than the standard Pantera. The wheels wear Michelin TB5 racing tires up front that measure 23/62R15 and delivers an excellent performance out on the road. It has a more luxurious interior than earlier Panteras, and this example is trimmed in beige and black leather. The dog-leg pattern shifter features a metal gate, and lap belts are provided for the driver and passenger.
You’ll not find many cars that offer quite the same aesthetic impact as this 1982 DeTomaso Pantera GT5 going under the hammer with Bring A Trailer. The visual vibrancy is provided by the striking colourway that it boasts and if you’re after a stand out vehicle for your classic car line up, this one would definitely get our vote here at Coolector HQ.
Period Features
Veglia Borletti instrumentation includes an 8k-rpm tachometer, a 300-km/h speedometer, and four gauges which can be found located in the centre console that are canted toward the driver. A period cassette radio is also mounted vertically in the centre console to give this vehicle more than a hint of old school cool which is sure to appeal to plenty of 80s aficionados out there.
There are many days left to put a bid in for this 1982 DeTomaso Pantera GT5 so make sure you move quickly if you’re keen to add this stunning steed to your line up of luxury vehicles. It’s in great condition for its age and will definitely be the sort of car that turns heads aplenty whenever you give it an outing.
