As you’re likely aware, we’re pretty big into our watches here at Coolector HQ and Ollech & Wajs are a watchmaker that never leaves us wanting more and the calibre of their timepieces really is second to none. A fine example of this is their recently released OW M-110 Tool Watch, which sets the bar high and would be a standout addition to any timepiece aficionado’s lineup. This is a tactical tool watch that draws on over half a century of military know-how and it now comes fitted with a unique ‘infantry green’ dual-ply fabric strap that makes it great for outdoor adventures aplenty.
Priced at $1,633, the Ollech & Wajs OW M-110 Tool Watch is a top-class example of the sort of quality you can get on your wrist in an entry-level luxury watch and we’re loving its wilderness-ready design and build here at The Coolector. The strap on this dapper yet robust offering from Ollech & Wajs is crafted from reclaimed, military-grade double twill hemp canvas that has been sourced directly from the Swiss Army’s unused surplus supply so you know that it’s built to last.
This lightweight, no-nonsense material was originally manufactured in the mid-50s for military applications. It was made to last over a century in the field, so it’s no surprise that it’s still going strong over 60 years later. The material is called Cordura, and it is crafted from nylon that is exceptionally hard-wearing and resistant to everyday wear and tear. It is often used in the manufacture of backpacks, luggage, and other outdoor gear such is its resilience. Cordura is also used in the manufacture of military uniforms and equipment, as it is both lightweight and durable.
The two-tone fabric is lined with 100% natural soft leather sourced and hand-stitched in Italy to exacting standards. This provides a comfortable and luxurious feel on the wrist and makes this one of our favourite timepieces from Ollech & Wajs to date. The straight-cut edge of the strap is designed to fray subtly with everyday wear, giving it extra vintage character. This makes the strap look unique and stylish. It is finished with a brushed stainless steel thorn buckle, signed OWZ 1956. This adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the strap.
Some of the other stand-out features of this exemplary tool watch include a 300m water resistance, brushed 316L stainless steel, screwed bottom, screwed crown, rotating steel bezel; made in the Swiss Jura, 360-degree compass bezel with Super-LumiNova® cardinal direction markers and an angle scale and an automatic bespoke Soprod Newton Precision P092; date-only calendar, with semi-instantaneous changes and quick adjustment using the crown; stop seconds; 4Hz 28,800 vibrations per hour; 23 jewels; 44-hour power reserve.
