Needless to say, the Hamptons is renowned for having some of the most majestic homes in all of the United States and you can certainly add Long Island House from US studios Steven Harris Architects and Rees Roberts & Partners to that list. This extraordinary piece of design sits upon an unduly site and is nestled close to the sand dunes for the ultimate in seaside living.
Wonderfully well-designed both inside and out, Long Island House in the Hamptons was purpose-built for an urban, art-loving couple who desired a family holiday home that really welcomed the coastal terrain and would serve as the ideal spot for entertaining both friends and family. To help design the spectacular holiday home, the two studios behind its creation took their cues from the site’s rolling topography and the glorious views of the Atlantic Ocean.
The team also turned to the work of Roberto Burle Marx, the late Brazilian landscape architect, who would regularly incorporate organic forms into his creations. The end result of this design process is a house U-shaped in plan, with both straight and sinuous lines incorporated into the layout.
For the material palette of Long Island House’s exterior, the architects decided to go for low-maintenance and robust choices that could easily put up with the harsh marine environment of being so close to the Atlantic Ocean, where rust and rot are regular issues for homeowners. The entrance to the home is located on the north side, set deep within an entry courtyard. Visitors will make their way into an spacious, light-filled foyer that is punctuated with a sculptural staircase that is cleverly designed to be reminiscent of a shell – in keeping with the home’s beach setting.
The upper floor of Long Islan House is where you’ll find the primary bedroom, a sleeping and sitting area for children, two office spaces and a media room. On the ground level of the superbly designed property, there is an array of guest bedrooms, back-of-house spaces and an impressive indoor basketball court. Another stunning addition to the Hampton’s line up of spectacular, luxury homes.
