We’re not going to lie, we love a good pub here at Coolector HQ and one of the few things capable of making this sort of establishment better is the addition of relaxing and comfortable rooms where you can sleep off a glorious meal and selection of craft ales. Well, you won’t be surprised to hear in that case that our recent stay at The Grazing Goat, a Public House & Hotel, in London’s upmarket Marylebone district was a most welcome one indeed.
The Grazing Goat is located on New Quebec Street in the heart of Marylebone and it’s difficult to say which part of their establishment – the public house or the hotel rooms – is more accomplished because they both have qualities that are off the charts. Needless to say, we spent a good proportion of our time during the stay at The Grazing Goat in the bar area such is our proclivity for all things alcohol beverage related and the welcoming staff coupled with the great selection of beers, cocktails and coffees meant it was a chore to tear ourselves away.
With such a sumptuously appointed interior design aesthetic, you’re immediately drawn into the public house component of The Grazing Goat the minute you walk through the door and it offers a warm, rustic and traditionally styled interior with a mouth-watering seasonal British menu that will cater to more or less every taste. The good news just keeps on coming, however, when you are shown to your room and the quality replicates the fantastic stylings of the bar and restaurants on the first and second floors.
Raising The Bar
The bar is an important part of any hotel but it really is the epicentre of The Grazing Goat and where you’ll likely want to spend much of your time whilst enjoying a stay here (even though there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area – being located just a stone’s throw from Oxford Street and Marble Arch). In the bar you will be enveloped by glorious open fireplaces, rustic wooden panelling and large French doors that are perfect for bringing the outdoors inside when the weather permits. The food and drink on offer in the bar is fantastically varied and always served with a smile by the knowledgeable barkeepers and waiting staff.
Fish and Sunday Roasts are the stand out foods at The Grazing Goat in our opinion but whatever your taste persuasions, you’re sure to find something on their extensive menu capable of sating them. The wonderfully vintage surroundings of the bar and the friendly ambience throughout make this the perfect spot to relax and sit back with a local ale or cocktail whilst watching the world go by on the streets of Marylebone.
In addition to the ground floor bar, The Grazing Goat also offers an exemplary restaurant on the first floor which overlooks New Quebec Street. The dining space offers guests an all day British menu which boasts plenty of local seasonal produce and an extensive, classy wine list chock full of aromatic whites and full-bodied reds. Food is a principal draw of The Grazing Goats but it’s their exceptional selection of hotel rooms which act as the real icing on the cake.
Classy & Comfortable Rooms
The Grazing Goat is, of course, a public house and restaurant first and foremost so it doesn’t have an abundance of rooms on the upper floors but their small but perfectly formed selection serve as the perfect spot to reside if you want to take in the amazing sights and sounds of this part of London. With just eight rooms available at The Grazing Goat, and with demand always high, you’ll need to plan in advance if you want to stay at this superb hotel and public house.
With the bedrooms set over the property’s top three floors and there are six standard rooms and two superior rooms at The Grazing Goat but they both ensure that the quality on offer within is unparalleled. The stunning superior room that we were lucky enough to stay in at Coolector HQ was thoughtfully decorated throughout and capitalised on the rustic charm of the building with some superb interior design flourishes that really bought the room to life.
Each of the hotel rooms at The Grazing Goat has a king size bed, 32″ flatscreen TV with Freeview, iPod docking station, DAB alarm radio and, additionally, our superior room had a much needed Dyson Cool Tower for cooling down the room on a warm autumn evening. There were so many impressive little touches to the design, amenities and general finish of the Superior Room at The Grazing Goat that it was difficult to tear ourselves away in the morning but this is a London hotel that we’ve no hesitations in recommending. Especially when you consider there is a top notch pub at the bottom of a few flights of stairs. The definition of a win, win in our beer loving book at The Coolector.
