Watchmakers are popping up on our radar all the time here at Coolector HQ but seldom make quite the same impression as MKII and their latest timepiece release, the Cruxible Watch, because this is certainly one of the classiest looking accessories you’re likely to come across and it’s priced affordably to boot. This fantastic timepiece from MKII has a field watch style aesthetic that screams adventure and will deliver the sort of robust, no-nonsense performance that today’s contemporary men demand.
The Cruxible Watch from MKII is very USA centric and takes inspiration from the great crucible of humanity bonded by the ideal of equality and the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all. This eye-catching timepiece from American watchmakers, MKII, is an impressive one that is fuelled by the watchmaker’s dedication to utilitarianism, reliability, and timeless styling. They strive to build an inclusive brand; rooted in value and substance and are driven by their desire to build watches that will serve our customers with distinction and earn a place in their family’s history.
Understated Style and Bold Performance
WWII is a chief influence on the design and performance of the MKII Cruxible Watch and it has been six years in the making. MKII have poured into resurrecting the iconic American tool watch of World War II detailed in the A-11 specification. During its time, it was largely unappreciated, but this American watchmaker has aspired to elevate this design so that it could fulfil its potential to symbolise that event, the shared sacrifice, and the universal bond inherent to the ideals of the United States.
Wonderfully well made and aesthetically understated, the MKII Cruxible Watch certainly ticks our boxes here at Coolector HQ and it has a mid-case which has been strengthened and reconfigured to accommodate a screw down crown providing 100 meters water resistance and a contemporary take on the scroll lug which takes its design inspiration from the Patek Philippe reference 1463 and iconic CWC G10 field watch. The iconic looking dial has been carefully reworked to provide a more nuanced interpretation of the war time specification and enhanced readability.
In an allusion to period USN watches the Mk II logo and depth rating are printed in gloss black on the dial and there is such an old school cool style to this majestic looking timepiece that it’s hard not to be impressed. The MKII Cruxible Watch incorporates the use of SuperLumiNova such that its presence is hidden in plain sight. It is barely discernible to the unaided eye as the dial is deftly coated with SLN on its four cardinal points to improve readability and boldly announce itself in the low light conditions. The fully luminous hands are constructed to recall their spartan origins through a contemporary approach that is more visually cohesive with the dial.
Excellent Components
With a price tag starting at $649, there are many impressive elements to the design and components used in the creation of these first class watches from MKII. First and foremost there is the Japanese made SII NE15 (Rotor features Côtes de Genève) movement which has a quickset date, hack setting, automatic with manual winding capability and ensures the on-going reliability of these superb looking timepieces.
Available in both a date and no-date version, this military inspired, field watch style timepieces from MKII have certainly left us impressed here at The Coolector and the fact you can pick one up for under $700 is the real icing on the cake. Understated, robust and with a comfortable fit, there really is nothing not to like about these exemplary timepieces from this relative newcomer to the world of watchmaking.
