UNDONE x Popeye & Friends Watches

Safe to say Popeye is one of the cartoons we remember best from our childhood here at Coolector HQ so we were understandably excited when we came across the UNDONE x Popeye & Friends Collection of watches. The collection consists of three instantly recognisable cartoon characters; two men who have been fighting over a woman for nearly a century; and one magical journey that mesmerises millions. Namely, Popeye, Brutus and Olive.

Nautical Vibe

The cornerstone piece of this new limited edition release from UNDONE is the “Destro” Popeye Limited Edition release which is limited to just 250 pieces. This watch has the crown positioned at nine o’clock instead of three. Made for left handers to wind the watch without having to take it off the right wrist. The sailorman’s comically muscular forearms serve as the functioning hours and minutes hands and add a touch of humour to proceedings. The unique block indices are a nod to the timeless Marine Nationale watches.

Brutus shares the limelight in this limited collection from UNDONE and his version boasts UNDONE’s first half – transparent dial. The mechanical movement beneath the dial is revealed to showcase the “heartbeat” of time, which also controls Brutus’ arms to tell the hours and minutes. Serving to help protect the watch from rust and wear is a PVD coated stainless steel case in a sophisticated blue colourway. The Brutus timepiece is complete with a rubber strap designed to absorb impact and resist corrosive chemicals.

Last but not least is the Olive Oyl edition which is set on a mother of pearl dial which appears in her classic red blouse and black skirt, with both her arms swivelling to help tell time. To keep the dial clean and visually superior, the second hand has been removed so the dial can also be appreciated like a painting. Olive Oyl uses a more feminine font for its indices to showcase sophistication and a classic aesthetic.

Attention to Detail

Quality abounds with this UNDONE Popeye & Friends collection of watches. The Popeye version has a 100m water resistance is ensured by the screw-down, glass caseback, allowing for professional marine activities. Finishing touches include Popeye’s name signed off on the caseback. Powering the watch is a reliable Japanese TMI NH35A Automatic Winding Mechanism. The Brutus Limited Edition watch is housed within a PVD coated 316L stainless steel case. The case measures at 43mm with a thickness of 16.5mm including crystal and protecting the dial is a sapphire crystal lens that is scratch resistant, crisply transparent, and generally impervious to bumps and scrapes.

The elegant 34 Olive Limited Edition watch is 34mm in diameter and comes in at the height of 11mm, from caseback to the top of the hardened domed K1 crystal. The 316L stainless steel case is where you’ll find a Japanese TMI VH61 Quartz movement with a Sweep Second Hand (supplied by SEIKO Manufacturing (H.K.) Limited).
