There is something pleasingly minimalist about the aesthetics of this desk accessory or paperweight and these precision machined, solid spheres have been designed to match AltDynamic’s original solids of constant width, the Orbiform and PentaOrbiform – both of which were also successful Kickstarter campaigns.

Effortlessly Elegant Design

Unlike many of the other shapes that AltDynamic have crafted, the humble Sphere is already well known all around the world. We see them and use them every day and it is likely the shape we are most familiar with. It is also probably the first shape many of us held or played with as children. The Sphere from AltDynamic has taken Kickstarter by storm and it is their next step in showing the evolution and relationship to their brilliant Orbiform & PentaOrbiform creations.

It comes in a precision machined metal medium for those who love and enjoy the combination of art and math and the ubiquity, relevance and usefulness of the sphere makes it one of the most integral shapes in our lives and the most important solid of constant width.

What makes this campaign so impressive is the fact that spheres are almost never CNC machined in the way AltDynamic are doing for this campaign and it is even more unusual because they are made this large from solid Copper, Brass and Stainless Steel bars. Spheres in industrial applications, such as ball bearings, are stamped and abrasively ground down to size and lapped for a smooth surface so to get one of this size on your workspace is most unusual and awesome in equal measure.

AltDynamic have really made a name for themselves based on the quality of their products and The Sphere is certainly no exception. These spheres are available in a number of different finishes which includes Machine Finish (which is straight off the lathe) which boasts a fine radial texture and Mirror Finish which is highly polished and is literally as reflective as a mirror.
