Breitling are, of course, one of the most recognisable Swiss watchmakers in the world and whenever they’ve got a limited edition release, it goes without saying that we’re going to sit up and take notice here at Coolector HQ. Their most recent offering is the Breitling Wheels & Waves Limited Edition Watch and it is the perfect choice of timepiece for any man who has the spirit for adventuring in their blood.
The Breitling Wheels & Waves Limited Edition Watch was recently unveiled in Biarritz and is billed as a lifestyle statement on water, the track or in the air. It is a celebration of the pioneering spirit of the Wheels & Waves Festival which takes place in Biarritz in France and it will come in two versions: namely, an 18k red gold and stainless steel iteration. The brand also celebrates its powerful links to the two thrilling sports of the festival – motorcycling and surfing.
Calling All Adventurers
Starting back in 2012, the Wheels & Waves Festival has become the world’s leading motorcycle, surfing, and skateboarding event, and it has attracted visitors from all over the world – who are drawn to the festival’s dynamic yet cool atmosphere – to the popular resort town. Each June, thousands of visitors weave their way to Biarritz, where they are treated to displays of world-class surfing, motorcycle racing, and skateboarding. At this years event, as Official Timekeeper, Breitling was on hand throughout the festival, which proved once again to be a platform that authentically embodies the Swiss watch manufacture’s Land and Sea brand worlds.
The Breitling Wheels & Waves Limited Edition Watch is limited to just 100 pieces for the red gold version and 500 for the stainless steel and, as with all limited edition watches from Breitling, is sure to sell out fast. The cases in both versions of the watch feature an engraved plate with a Breitling SPECIAL inscription on the left side. These watches are set apart from the competition by their unique anthracite dial with golden hour markers, hour and minute hands, and a red central seconds hand. The dial boasts a black tachymeter scale on a white inner bezel, with a red tachymeter inscription.
With COSC-certified chronometers which have contrasting black sub-dials (a chronograph minute counter at 3 o’clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock) – a mark that they are powered by Breitling’s flagship Manufacture Caliber 01. The in-house mechanical movement, which delivers a power reserve of around 70 hours, can be seen through a transparent case back. The caseback for the 18 k red gold version is engraved with a “ONE OF 100” inscription; the stainless-steel model is engraved “ONE OF 500”.
Perfect Partners
The Wheels and Waves Limited Edition watch brilliantly reflects Breitling’s partnership with the festival as this chronograph timepiece is a very special version of their Premier range, which is Breitling’s most elegant watch family. At the same time, they reflect the things Breitling love about Wheels and Waves: namely, the energy, the lifestyle, of course, the coolness. If you’ve got a similar mindset, this limited edition watch could just be the one for you.
Breitling has always been positioned as a luxury watchmaker, but in terms of its attitude, style, and the sports it supports, it is definitely one of the most inclusive brands out there. At Wheels and Waves, thousands of visitors had a chance to interact with the brand and they were able to identify with Breitling, its stories, and its Squads and, now, they can get their hands on this fantastic looking limited edition watch to boot.
