Electrified Icon: The ICON 4×4 EV Bronco – For When Your Nostalgia Needs a Jolt

Right then, petrolheads and purveyors of all things retro-cool, prepare yourselves. ICON 4×4, the maestros of automotive restomodding (that’s fancy talk for making old cars ridiculously awesome and modern), have just dropped their latest bombshell. And this time, it’s packing more volts than your average lightning storm. Say hello to the ICON EV Bronco, a vehicle that takes the concept of vintage charm meeting modern grunt to a whole new, frankly electrifying, level.

For years, ICON has been the go-to for those who appreciate the classic lines of yesteryear but demand the driving experience of today. They’ve built a reputation on seamlessly blending the soul of iconic vehicles with contemporary engineering. But now, they’ve gone full electron, and the result is this stunningly reimagined Bronco. Jonathan Ward and his team have clearly spent some serious hours – over 5,000 of them, apparently, spanning a year and a half – collaborating with the boffins at Moment Motor Company to bring this vision to life. And let’s be honest, they weren’t exactly rushing into the EV game. They waited until the tech was up to their exacting standards, and judging by the specs, it was worth the wait.

Power? Oh, it’s got power. We’re talking over 500 horses under that classic Bronco bonnet, unleashing more than 440 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to make your vintage-loving heart skip a beat, and then propel you from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 4.5 seconds. All that oomph is delivered via a full-time all-wheel-drive system, ensuring you’re not just quick off the mark, but also capable of tackling pretty much anything the tarmac (or lack thereof) throws your way.

And for those moments when you need to dial things back (or perhaps show off a little less), there are three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. Because even when you’re driving an electric classic, sometimes you just want to feel sporty. To match that newfound power, they’ve even slapped on some Brembo brakes, because stopping is arguably just as important as going ludicrously fast. Plus, electro-hydraulic power steering promises a driving experience smoother than a freshly paved highway.

But this isn’t just a tarmac terror. The ICON EV Bronco retains its off-road pedigree, sporting a full-time All Wheel Drive system and an Advanced Reiger adjustable Suspension. So, whether you’re cruising down the high street or exploring some dusty trails, this Bronco is in its element. Currie axles with a rear LSD and ARB locking front differentials mean you can conquer terrain that would make lesser vehicles weep. ICON has clearly sweated the details, implementing top-tier tech throughout. The industry-standard 400V architecture powers a hefty 105kWh battery, giving you a respectable range of 175-200 miles. And don’t worry about your precious electrons getting too hot or cold; there’s full thermal management onboard. Plus, the battery pack is cleverly distributed to maintain the perfect balance that ICON Broncos are known for.

Charging is a breeze, with an on-board 6.6kW Level 2 charger for easy overnight top-ups at home, and Level 3 CCS fast charging for when you’re on the go and need a quick jolt. And for those who like a bit of aquatic adventure (within reason, of course), the battery enclosure is IP67 waterproof tested. Inside, the Vehicle Control Unit manages all the modern amenities, including integrated Battery Management, Power Management, and Vehicle Management. A Head Unit with CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility adds a touch of modern convenience to the otherwise vintage-styled interior.

ICON’s first EV Bronco, dubbed ‘Blue Star’, sports a rather fetching blue colourway with a white leather interior. And if you’re thinking of snagging one of these beauties, you’ll be working directly with ICON founder Jonathan Ward to ensure your bespoke vision comes to life. This Special Limited Edition is restricted to just ten collectible examples, each carrying an MSRP of $449,000. So, if you’ve got the cash and a penchant for silent, electrifying vintage thrills, the ICON EV Bronco is ready to deliver. Just maybe start saving those pennies now.
