British watchmakers, Farer, have long been on our radar here at The Coolector and we’re always left amazed with the calibre of their new releases but their latest, the devilishly dapper Erebus Automatic Watch, might just be their most classy to date. Elegance and sophistication personified, this majestic looking timepiece from Farer is a three hand second sweep automatic watch with black silk gloss dial and choice of strap and it is the sort of watch you’d expect to see on the wrist of Don Draper.
The Farer Erebus Automatic Watch retails for an entirely reasonable £790 and for any man seeking a high-quality timepiece sub-£1000, this one will truly be tough to top. The Erebus is billed as an exercise in contemporary elegance. It is restrained, but never plain, the design strips back the Farer approach to its bare elemental parts with a devotion to detail and we’re big fans of its mid-century-esque vibes here at Coolector HQ.
STYLE & PERFORMANCE COMBINE
The stand out design feature of the Erebus Watch from Farer is the visually captivating, silk gloss dial which will immediately draw the eye of all who see it. It is so striking courtesy of the pitch black mirror-like finish that plays with the light – with every move opening a new look on your wrist. The two layer, internal anti-reflective, boxed cased sapphire crystal domed glass is also important because it allows the dial to shine without creating any glare across the crystal itself.
Effortlessly cool and stylish, the Farer Erebus Automatic Watch (£790) has an on outer open track in sharp white with five second numeric numbers in mid blue which deliver the impactful second look contrast. But the playful pop of colour has been carefully kept in reserve for the Farer ‘A’ tip of the sweeping seconds in signal red, which appears to float on the end of the polished black hand, completing the contemporary classic design of this glorious looking timepiece.
This brilliant watch is cut from 316L marine grade stainless steel and highly polished all over to really showcase its sophisticated profile. The use of a boxed cased sapphire crystal domed glass complements the case, and provides the overall watch a highly striking and utterly unique aesthetic. The Farer Erebus Automatic Watch has been designed with an open, exhibition glass back to view the SELLITA SW200-1 (no date) Swiss Made automatic movement and bespoke rotor – a real pillar of Swiss calibres, the SW200-1 is precise, reliable and robust. After an impeccable watch for under £1000 – this might just be the pick of the bunch.
