When thinking about everyday carry here at Coolector HQ, stationery invariably forms a large part of the thinking process and notebooks in particular are something we always look for in our EDC line up. The latest release from notebook specialists, Field Notes, might just be one of our favourites to date because the Three Missions Notebooks are a celebration of the NASA programmes that first put man on the moon.
The Field Notes Three Missions Notebooks look back to fifty years ago, when America was in the midst of a historic quest to land a man on the Moon. This 39th Quarterly Release from Field Notes, the “Three Missions” Edition, is a tribute and celebration of the amazing programs that got us to the moon. Each 3-Pack of notebooks consists of three Memo Books, one each for the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs and they are chock full of facts and figures about these missions.
Photographic Memory
Landing on the moon is undoubtedly one of the most iconic moments in human history and these fantastic Three Missions Notebooks from Field Notes boast dramatic photographs of legendary moments from those missions on the covers, and these are printed in full process colour, plus “Orbital Silver” metallic ink and an aqueous coating. On the inside of these notebooks there is Finch Opaque 60#T white graph paper with the rules printed in an extremely light “Firmament Gray” ink making these pages helpful regardless of whether you’re planning a summer picnic, or calculating optimal orbital trajectories and eccentricities.
Fans of Field Notes will likely notice that these Three Missions Notebooks come in a slightly larger package than usual which is because each set also has three “Punch-Out and Assemble” Mission-Specific Crew Capsule Models, which are both fun and educational. Needless to say, these punch out models are built to survive re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere but they will look mighty cool in the workspace of any astronomy loving individual and have really been tested in space to give them the extra level of awesomeness.
During the research phase of creating these brilliant Three Missions Notebooks, Field Notes were consistently and dramatically reminded of the truly monumental accomplishments of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo scientists, support and crew members in their endeavours in getting man to the moon. These notebooks are a celebration of them, and also the current staff at NASA and the JPL in all their achievements.
Quality Throughout
As with all the wares from Field Notes, these Three Missions Notebooks are made of fine materials and boast excellent craftsmanship in their printing. They are printed by the good people of eDOC Communications, in Mount Prospect, Illinois and the cover and innards are printed on a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 40″ 6-color printing press for a tangible sense of quality that immediately catches the eye.
Available for just $12.95, the Field Notes Three Missions Notebooks will represent a top class addition to any NASA loving individual’s EDC line up.
