The Hodinkee x Leica M10-P “Ghost Edition” Camera has a price tag of $14,995 and it is the result of Hodinkee’s decades-long fascination with how timeless objects age and evolve. Taking design inspiration from a watch with a faded “ghost” dial and bezel that HODINKEE founder and CEO, Ben Clymer, purchased at the beginning of his career, the M10-P “Ghost Edition” for HODINKEE looks quite unlike any other Leica camera on the market.

Impeccable Quality

Leica, the world famous German camera company need no introduction and the quality of their cameras really does speak for itself but this “Ghost Edition” release in collaboration with Hodinkee ramps things up still further in the quality department. Hodinkee selected the Leica M10-P, a camera that has been in constant demand since it was unveiled last year. They capped the traditional magnesium alloy chassis of the M with a luxurious brass top plate and bottom cover before painting it the old-fashioned way in a warm grey finish. Last but not least, they wrapped the centre section in a cement-coloured leather, complimented by white and grey coloured engravings.

It takes some 15 hours combined to create and put together the 1,000 components of a single M camera, which includes making sure that the mechanical shutter actuates quickly and quietly. The shutter sound of the M10-P is actually the most quiet of any M camera in Leica’s century-plus history, digital or analog. In keeping with the theme of discretion, each camera has been individually numbered on the hot shoe and labeled “Ghost Edition For HODINKEE” underneath the battery compartment cover which adds another level of exclusivity to proceedings.

The iconic Leica lenses, which are fully mechanical and completely void of any electronics, can be used on any M camera from the earliest years up until modern day. The grinding, polishing, and hand-finished blackening of the optical glass is created by combining cutting-edge innovations in manufacturing with old-world handcrafted expertise – and each lens needs around 20 hours of work to complete.

Tech Friendly Design

The Hodinkee x Leica MP-10 “Ghost Edition” Camera boasts a redesigned touch-screen LCD, which lets you to check the focus in live-view and playback modes much faster than ever before. It also has convenient touchscreen controls such as swiping and pinch-to-zoom. The camera has a built-in level gauge, which assists you in capturing a perfectly framed and uniform shot. The M10-P has a 24 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, an ISO range of 100 to 50,000, and connectivity to digital devices via Leica’s FOTOS app.
