Though boat ownership isn’t something we can currently claim to enjoy here at Coolector HQ, we know there are plenty out there who do have such vessels under their belt and, chances are, they’d love a brilliant means of residing alongside said mode of transportation. Well, you need look no further than this gloriously designed and minimalist marvel, the Hood Canal Boat House from Hoedemaker Architects.
The Hood Canal Boat House is a striking yet understated piece of design from Hoedemaker Architects and it is a complete rejuvenation of an existing boathouse which had no windows, just one door, and, quite frankly, no charm to speak of. As a result of this charmless structure, Hoedemaker had their work cut out for them to come up with an engaging and eye-catching space for relaxation on the waterfront but, as you can plainly see, it’s mission well and truly accomplished.
Boat House Brilliance
There is a lot of clever design principles in play with this Hood Canal Boat House which is designed as a structure that is capable of turning itself inside out as it were, delivering a protective layer of concrete and steel to the exterior with the warmth of marine plywood on the inside. Needless to say, this provides the sort of industrial, minimalist style aesthetic that we’re big fans of here at Coolector HQ and Hoedemaker have made a really compelling building to relax and unwind with this superb looking offering.
The Hood Canal Boat House really does showcase the creative talents of Hoedemaker and their ability to breathe new life into an existing structure and completely reconfigure its usability and attractiveness. This striking piece of design boasts oversized sliding doors which are made all the better because they extend well beyond the building to create a number of sheltered spaces facing both the sunrise and sunset and delivering eye-catching views out across the water.
It really is a structure for all seasons because the Hood Canal Boat House has a retractable ladder which will let you use the building as winter boat storage solution and, when the weather improves in the summer loft sleeping is an option with a built in sleeping area. Understated and cleverly designed, this fantastic piece of architecture from Hoedemaker is right up our street here at The Coolector and the fact it is water adjacent is the icing on the cake.
Relaxation Personified
With water right on the doorstep of the Hood Canal Boat House, we really can think of few places more perfectly suited to relaxing in summer and autumn than this amazing looking construct from Hoedemaker. Expertly conceived and boasting an impressive line up of features, this structure ticks all the right boxes for us and we’re in little doubt that other architecture lovers out there will be just as enamoured.
First class design coupled with great craftsmanship really brings the Hood Canal Boat House to life and for anyone with a love of minimalist design principles, it’s an eye-catching piece for sure. Boat ownership has never looked so appealing as it does right now truth be told.
