There aren’t many workshops as accomplished as ICON 4×4 when it comes to creating vintage builds that will leave your jaw on the floor and the latest to have caught our eye here at Coolector HQ is this breathtakingly reimagined 1970 Ford Ranger which forms part of the workshop’s Reformer series of vehicles. Boasting unparalleled vintage vibes, it’s hard not to be won over by the considerable aesthetic charms of this eye-catching steed.
This latest creation from ICON 4×4 presents an entirely reimagined 1970 Ford Ranger which has been specially made to celebrate the classic styling of one of the world’s greatest trucks alongside a complete vehicle reengineering. One key notion behind each ICON Reformer concept design is the process of reimagining classic designs for use in the contemporary world, and the new 1970 Ford Ranger is the ideal combination of timeless aesthetics paired with a high-performance.
Contemporary Classic
The Reformer series from ICON 4×4 is a distinctly unique approach to classic restoration, and this new 1970 Ford Ranger is the ideal example of how they work with clients to completely reimagine trucks like these on every level. They’re rewriting history to a certain degree by delivering a bespoke truck that can act as a daily driver with timeless style, contemporary engineering, and none of the sacrifices which you would commonly see with more conventional restorations.
The new ICON 4×4 1970 Ford Ranger Reformer is powered by a 426-hp Ford 5.0L Coyote V8 engine which has been paired to a Ford AOD automatic transmission. A twin-stick Advance Adapters Atlas II transfer case delivers the power to the axles, while PSC power steering considerably enhancess the new truck’s handling and on-road capabilities. It uses a four-link rear suspension system, while the front uses radius arms. Eibach coil springs join forces with Fox shocks to improve drive handling and ensure a comfortable ride whatever the terrain.
In order to optimise drivability, ICON 4×4 have integrated Dynatrac ProRock axles and the front of this 1970 Ford Ranger boasts a fortified Dana 44 with hardened shafts, while the rear includes an even stouter Dana 60 design. It also features custom designed special 18-inch forged aluminum wheels that were inspired by the original factory steel rims, complete with vintage hubcaps.
Eye-Catching Interiors
Extensive interior upgrades have been carried out for this ICON 4×4 build and include a brand-new Vintage Air Gen IV HVAC system and bespoke chrome aluminium knobs and bezels that were designed by the workshop. Dakota digital gauges add another elegant touch to proceedings and further modernise the vehicle’s upgraded interior. The 1970 Ford Ranger Reformer is also outfitted with unique and subtle ICON badging throughout which adds to the aesthetic appeal considerably.
It also boasts legendary Maharam textiles and specially-crafted leather from Relicate to expertly match the original truck’s factory vinyl. All interior appointments have been hand-stitched in house by ICON 4×4. To further protect the exterior body, ICON 4×4 have coated the Ranger’s floorboards with a polyurea floor surface coating, and each body panel was powder coated prior to paint for enhanced corrosion protection.
