ICON 4×4 FJ44 Old School Edition

Car restorations can be a painstaking process, particularly when you have an attention to detail as impressive as ICON 4×4. Their latest build, the FJ44 Old School Edition, is a fine example of this meticulous attention to detail in action and if you’ve got an affinity for military-style vehicles, this one is going to be right up your street.

The ICON 4×4 FJ44 Old School Edition comes from a workshop synonymous with breathing new life into all manners of vintage vehicles by infusing builds with contemporary enhancements as part of the company’s Old School Edition series. The newest addition to the ICON 4×4 Old School series to come off the line is this spectacular Eucalyptus Green FJ44 four-door truck with a powder-coated aluminium body which has left us mighty impressed here at Coolector HQ.

Pioneering Performance

Crafted in the very same exacting spirit of previous hand-built ICON trucks, the newest Old School FJ44 does a great job of preserving the original visual impact of the legendary Landcruiser while considerably upgrading the rig’s performance and safety but reducing emissions in the process, alongside a vast array of sophisticated and useful amenities which have been cleverly concealed within.

The ICON 4×4 FJ44 Old School Edition is powered by an aluminium 6.2 LS Generation GM fuel-injected V8 which leaves this impressive steed capable of producing up to 430 horsepower and 450 lb./ft. of torque. Mated to the engine is an Aisin Warner AX15 five-speed manual transmission and an Atlas II two-speed transfer case which again helps with the overall performance. When combined with ICON’s hydroboost-assisted Brembo Sport Brakes, this vintage 1972 truck handles considerably better than the original vehicle ever would have.

With Dynatrac Dana 60 rear axles and Dana 44 front axles and a Fox Racing coil-over sport suspension, the Old School Edition FJ from ICON 4×4 is built to adeptly manage almost any terrain you can put in front of it. ICON’s FJ rides on sticky BF Goodrich all-terrain 285/65/18 tires mounted to ICON’s rugged vintage-inspired wheels crafted of forged aluminium to finish off the Old School aesthetic perfectly.

Luxurious Interiors

When it comes to finishing off builds to a high spec, few do it better than ICON 4×4 and that applies to the interiors as well as the exteriors. The custom interior shows off some of the newest upgrades that ICON is incorporating into its designs, such as an NEX 8600 multimedia system complete with a reverse camera, Apple Carplay, a state-of-the-art navigation system, Bluetooth capabilities and Focal K2 speakers.

The FJ44’s robust yet generous bucket seats are expertly integrated into the front four seats of the vehicle, while ICON have added heating capabilities to radically improve passenger comfort during colder months. Two retro-style jump seats were added to the rear of the vehicle in a homage to the exact seats you’d find in the original 1972 FJ44. With a starting price of $237,000, the ICON 4×4 Old School Edition series is just one of the many lines of vintage-inspired trucks currently being made by the company in California.
