When you think of Paris, one of the first things that immediately springs to mind is the Louvre so when we discovered that the La Tamise Hotel was right on its very doorstep, in one of the city’s most exclusive and luxurious areas, it’s safe to say we were more than a little impressed here at The Coolector.

Given that it is located in such an affluent and desirable part of Paris, you’d be forgiven for thinking that La Tamise would have an intimidating aura about it to the casual traveller like us but this couldn’t be further from the truth. We can honestly say that the welcome that we were given by Julien, the hotel’s assistant manager, and Pierre upon arrival at the hotel was the finest we’ve had in all our years of travelling. Incredibly welcoming and going out of their way to help us settle in and experience the hotel’s impeccable location, Julien and Pierre were a real testament to the quality of La Tamise and we’d go back based upon their welcome alone.

Luckily, however, we don’t need to rely on just having an amazing welcome because the La Tamise Hotel is a real hidden gem of a hotel for Paris. Surrounded by some much more grandiose hotels, perhaps, but we’re in no doubt that you’ll struggle to find a Parisian hotel with more style and relaxing atmosphere than is to be found here. The La Tamise Hotel is situated in the 1st arrondissement and is positively surrounded by some of the city’s most sought after attractions, not to mention bars, cafes and restaurants.

Interesting Backstory

Built 1840-1850 and owned by the Noailles family who had a lot of property in the area, it eventually became a hotel called La Tamise in 1878. In the beginning, it welcomed mainly English and American guests who were on the “Grand Tour”, a traditional post-university trip and has gone on to epitomise how Paris has managed to retain its image as the ultimate melting pot for artistic inspiration over the years. Our stay here at La Tamise was a delight from first minute till last and we couldn’t recommend it more.

A boutique hotel in every sense, the La Tamise has just 19 small, but perfectly formed, rooms in a number of different styles from Club Room to Family Suite and they are all sumptuously decorated and supremely comfortable to say the least. Such is the immeasurable comfort of the room we had (not to mention the extraordinary view out towards the Louvre Museum), we were at pains to ever leave the hotel but considering the sights and sounds on its doorstep, we felt we must.

As such a small hotel, there is a real sense of camaraderie amongst the incredibly friendly staff and the small restaurant area and lobby are beautifully decorated in an art deco style, filled with eye-catching interior design flourishes. Warmly greeted whenever bumping into the reception and waiting staff at La Tamise, there is such a warm and welcoming atmosphere from the minute you arrive and this would unquestionably be one of the first hotels we’d gravitate towards the next time we find ourselves in Paris.

For our stay at La Tamise, we resided in one of their Superior Rooms (approx €260 per night) and it has such an old world charm and sophistication throughout. Though undoubtedly a relatively small room, the space is used so well that you never feel on top of each other and it has such comfortable design features throughout. The stunning views of views of Rue d’Alger and Jardin des Tuileries really add a whole new dimension to the room and you can open up the full length shutter windows to really take it all in.

The room boasted plenty of great little features to make the stay even better and some of the stand out ones include a TRECA queen-sized bed, Nespresso machine with coffee selection, welcome tray with Mariages Frères tea and Fauchon hot chocolate, SOTHYS toiletries and a unique mosaic by Mathilde Jonquière in the bathroom. Each room is decorated differently so no two are the same and that’s something which certainly adds to the charm of La Tamise Hotel in our opinion.

A Location Like No Other

Paris is a great city to simple walk around and take in the glorious architecture, museums and abundance of shops, bars and restaurants but this is particularly true if you’ve got such a well situated, welcoming and comfortable hotel as La Tamise to return to at the end of the day. Slap bang in the heart of historic Paris in a quiet street with views of the Jardin des Tuileries, this fantastic boutique hotel is a stone’s throw from the Seine and has such a buzzing vibrant atmosphere on your doorstep that it’s impossible not to be swept up by it.

If you’re looking for a hotel in Paris that really does have everything on your doorstep and out of this world staff who go that extra mile to make your stay a memorable one, La Tamise is going to tick all those boxes and more. Massively exceeding our expectations in every way, this is a hotel that you simply have to experience the next time you’re in Paris. A definite two thumbs up from us at Coolector HQ.
