Mark Wahlberg is an actor we’ve got a lot of time for here at The Coolector – not for his NKOTB work, you understand, but rather for his excellent body of movies that he’s got under his belt which has more than belied his critics and said work includes Boogie Nights, Three Kings, The Fighter and The Departed – and his latest offering, Lone Survivor, looks like he is going to be showcasing his excellent acting credentials once again.
Lone Survivor tells the true story of four Navy SEALS during an ill-fated undercover mission to tackle high-level Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan. The movie, based on the New York Times best-selling novel of the same name, also stars Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Eric Bana and Ben Forster and is directed by Peter Berg, possibly best known for his work on directing Friday Night Lights.
As a fan of war-based movies, I’m certainly looking forward to Lone Survivor and it’s always interesting to see ones that are based on real-life events (even if they are, understandably, dramatised). Lone Survivor is already shaping up to be a great addition to the already lengthy list of top notch war films and I’ll certainly be checking it out when it is released world-wide in December / January.
