American watchmakers are really experiencing a resurgence of late and there are few better examples of this than small batch timepiece producers, Oak & Oscar, and their latest release is called The Jackson and looks like being one of their best to date. For lovers of understated elegance and sophistication, The Jackson Watches are going to tick all of the right boxes and their excellent craftsmanship really is the icing on the cake.
Oak & Oscar’s The Jackson Watches are a celebration of the 1895 Chicago Times-Herald Race where six cars lined up on a cold, snowy Thanksgiving day to “race” the 54-mile journey from Jackson Park, to Evanston and back. This took nearly eight hours and after a rather leisurely 7 mph average pace, Charles Duryea’s “motorized wagon” stormed to victory and became the winner of the first official road race held in the USA. This series of watches from Oak & Oscar celebrates the pioneering spirit of these racers and infuses it into the design of these exemplary looking timepieces.
Stand Out Performance
As the releases from Oak & Oscar are typically small batch in nature, there is a real attention to detail that goes into their design and execution and it’s no exception with The Jackson Watches. These stunning timepieces boast a 40mm, hand-wound, flyback chronograph with a column wheel. The excellent, Swiss-made Eterna Caliber 3916M movement has a fantastically strong 60 hour power reserve. The specialised movement makes use of a innovative stacked register which delivers tracking of both elapsed minutes and hours.
Oak & Oscar The Jackson Watches are assembled and tested in Switzerland and then go on to a secondary round of inspection and testing performed in New York. Last but not least, the final assembly and inspection of these spectacularly stylish watches is carried out in Chicago before making their way onto the wrists of watch lovers out there. Each timepiece sold comes with a matching leather watch wallet made from horween leather and protective felt which has been co-designed by Chase and Dustin, the founder of Woodnsteel.
Limited to just 150 pieces, The Jackson Watches from Oak & Oscar come in three different iterations in terms of colour of watch face – with a grey, navy and PVD variety – so you’ll be able to find the perfect fit for your own watch aesthetic tastes. There really is a tangible sense of quality to these timepieces and for any man after a luxury watch with a great backstory, made in small batches and fairly priced, these ones from Oak & Oscar are right up there with the best of them.
Style & Story
We’re loving the automotive backstory to these timepieces from Oak & Oscar and it serves to add to the appeal of The Jackson still further. Striking aesthetically and with a great level of versatility in the look and feel of these watches, we’re in little doubt that they won’t be hanging around on the shelves for long so you’ll need to move quickly if you want to get your hands on one of these spectacular looking timepieces.
Oak & Oscar are a relative newcomer to the world of watchmaking having only formed a few years ago but, in this time, they’ve produced a number of small batch (and now sold out) series of watches, of which The Jackson might just be our favourite to date here at Coolector HQ. Dapper, exceptionally well crafted and affordable, this new collection from the American watchmaker really is a triple threat.
