Shinola Mackinac Watch

Detroit watchmakers Shinola have long been on our radar here at The Coolector and were, in fact, one of the first brands we wrote about at the beginning so we’re always keen to see when they’ve got new releases on their digital shelves. Their latest release, the 40mm Mackinac Watch, is one of their most visually vibrant to date and we’re loving its impactful aesthetic and top of the range performance.

The Shinola Mackinac Watch retails for $3500 and will add a real nautical vibe to your line up of timepieces this summer. Inspired by Detroit’s historic Bayview Yacht Club and their days-long Port Huron to Mackinac Island regatta which is one of the longest and most gruelling freshwater races on the planet. So, needless to say, you need a timepiece that can handle everything that you and Mother Nature can throw at it. And that’s exactly what the Mackinac delivers.

Shinola Mackinac

Named for this iconic sailing competition, the Shinola Mackinac is the American brand’s first timepiece with automatic, single-eye chronograph yacht-timer functionality – making it ideal for time out on the water. It’s a precision instrument which has been purposed-built to be passed on for generations— just like the tradition that directly inspires it.

Unlike power boats, yachts use the wind to get up to speed. At the start of a regatta event, flags and horns count down five, four, one, and zero minutes to start — and the competing yachts must cross the starting line at, but never before, their synchronised yacht timer. The Shinola Mackinac Watch ($3500) boasts a Swiss-made Sellita SW511.bhc Elaboré grade movement with premium finishing that includes blued screws and Geneva striping. This is accentuated by bespoke black rhodium plated rotor with orange bolt and maritime flag graphic treatment.

This classy, aquatic-inspired offering from Shinola has hours, minutes, chronograph second with 15 minute counter and date functionalities alongside 27 jewels to help reduce friction. With an impressive minimum 56-hour power reserve and a square case crafted from polished stainless steel with alternating brushed and polished surfaces, finished with sapphire crystal, this is one attractive and adventure ready timepiece. Last but not least, it has a full exhibition case back reveals the custom etched rotor.
