The Blancpain X Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection is a tribute to the first true diver’s watch, the Fifty Fathoms, which was created 70 years ago. This iconic Swiss watch revolutionized watchmaking by becoming the first timepiece that successfully met all the needs of underwater exploration.
The five mechanical watches in the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection faithfully reproduce all the hallmarks of the original Fifty Fathoms, while also referencing Swatch’s own diving watch line, the SCUBA. Each model celebrates one of the five oceans and the magnificent, colourful animals known as nudibranchs that dwell in their depths. Check out the watches from this great looking collection below:
ARCTIC OCEAN
The ARCTIC OCEAN watch commemorates the frigid waters of the world’s smallest ocean. The watch has a unique symbol on its contrasting soft beige dial: a red trefoil on a yellow background with a white cross through it. The words “NO RADIATIONS” are prominently displayed below the logo, paying homage to the legendary Fifty Fathoms heritage and rich history of diver’s watches from the 1960s.
PACIFIC OCEAN
The PACIFIC OCEAN model is a vibrant tribute to the Chromodoris Kuiteri sea slug, which can be found in the Pacific Ocean. The watch features a bright yellow-orange Bioceramic case, a NATO strap made from recycled fishing nets, and a black and white gradient dial. It also has a date indicator between 4 and 5 o’clock and is powered by the SISTEM51 movement.
INDIAN OCEAN
The INDIAN OCEAN model is a vibrant green timepiece with a Bioceramic case, dial, and NATO strap made from recycled fishing nets. It evokes images of lush, dazzling water and coral reefs abundant with marine life, including the Nembrotha Kubaryana, which can be found on the back of the watch. The gradient green dial features a date indicator between 4 and 5 o’clock and is powered by a SISTEM51 movement.
ANTARCTIC OCEAN
The ANTARCTIC OCEAN watch honors Earth’s most extreme environment. It has a bicolour water contact indicator that detects water at 6 o’clock on its cool grey gradient dial. This sensor is a crucial feature in military diving watches and a highly sought-after detail among watch collectors. The watch is powered by a SISTEM51 movement and has a back that features the Tritoniella Belli, a mysterious creature whose shape resembles an iceberg battered by storm waves.
ATLANTIC OCEAN
The ATLANTIC OCEAN watch is inspired by the deep and intense blue shades of the Atlantic Ocean. The colours of the Bioceramic case, gradient dial with a date indicator between 4 and 5 o’clock, and NATO strap created from recycled fishing nets are inspired by the Glaucus Atlanticus, a magnificent animal also known as the blue dragon. This creature can be found drifting on the surface of the Atlantic Ocean and is also featured on the back of the watch, which is equipped with a SISTEM51 movement.
