If you’re a fan of The Walking Dead or disaster movies, you’ll likely have considered how you’d fare in an apocalyptic style situation. Well, give yourself the best chance by investing in Vollebak’s latest bonkers but brilliant creation – the aptly named, Apocalypse Jacket. This amazing piece of outerwear is purpose-built to withstand black lava, flash fires and chemical erosion. Long story short, even zombies will hate it because it’s nigh on impenetrable. The Doomsday Clock is a symbol of global catastrophe. For the last half century scientists have used it to show how close we are to midnight, or a Doomsday scenario. In 1947 its original setting was seven minutes to midnight. In 2021 we had just 11 seconds to go. Now is the time to invest in the Apocalypse Jacket.
Surprisingly stylish given it’s ridiculously robust, Vollebak’s Apocalypse Jacket has a retail price of £995 – which, we can all agree, is a small price to pay if it protects your from a zombie bite one day. As a 2021 report by America’s CDC put it: “If you’re prepared for a zombie apocalypse, you’re prepared for pretty much anything”. That’s the reason why Vollebak have built the outside of their Apocalypse Jacket from a material originally invented by a Dr Marvel for NASA’s Apollo program, that can withstand black lava, flash fires, and chemical erosion. And it’s also why they’ve turned the entire inner lining of the jacket (including the sleeves) into 23 separate pockets that will ensure you can carry everything you need to survive when the zombies roam the earth.
BE PREPARED
In the late 1960s NASA needed something that was ridiculously fireproof. As the Cold War and the Apollo program gripped the globe, the Department of Defence called up a scientist named Dr Marvel (seriously) and gave him a seemingly impossible job. Invent a fibre that had no melting point. Marvel’s response was polybenzimidazole (PBI), a fibre of exceptional thermal and chemical stability. PBI retains its integrity after it is exposed to high heat, chemicals and abrasion – it won’t stiffen and crack, unlike other fire-retardant materials. And, you guessed it, that’s what Vollebak’s Apocalypse Jacket is crafted from.
The Vollebak Apocalypse Jacket (£995) needed to be as annihilation-proof as humanly possible. So they worked with a cutting-edge lab on the south coast of England – where its team of technicians and engineers helped them to come up with the jacket’s outer-shell by making use of a combination of PBI and para-aramid, the stuff used to make ballistic-rated body armour. Vollebak’s Apocalypse Jacket delivers unparalleled protection against heat, flash fire and arc flash, while retaining its flexibility and strength. It’s an incredible material that wouldn’t typically be seen in an readily available outerwear product.
You can never be too prepared for the unexpected, and it’s simpler to keep track of your gear if it’s all attached to you. Clothes, maps, spare batteries, a compass, duct tape, a sleeping bag, first-aid kit, crossbow, mosquito shelter, matches, a hatchet, soap, rope, a shovel, toothpaste, four litres of water and a signal mirror are just some of the items that are said to be essential by official apocalypse guidelines and you’ll be able to fit them all in here. There are 23 pockets in total which take up almost every square centimetre of this jacket. The back is made up of five giant pockets. The neck has another two. Even the sleeves have six to play with. Yet all the pockets are built with concealed zippers hidden in the seams, so no-one apart from you would know they’re even there. An amazing piece of outerwear that might save your life one day.
